wearing the right activewear

Working out comes very easy to some people, while others struggle to take the first step.

Whether you are just getting started in pursuing an outdoor adventure, or you have been training for quite some time, the clothing you choose to wear can improve your workout.

Below are a few ways that the right activewear can get you where you want to be physically.

It works with your body

It’s important that you purchase activewear that works with your bodies natural movements. You want to be able to enjoy your full range of motion and get the most out of your endeavour.

When you are fighting with your clothes every step of the way, it’s easy to get frustrated, and eventually give up. One example of the right active shirt is the Plateau T. It offers breathability through the underarm mesh panels, as well as a flatlock seaming design so you can reduce chafing.

It wicks away moisture

If you aren’t sweating during your training sessions, then you might have bigger problems than your clothes! Whether you get your physical activity by running on a treadmill in an air-conditioned room, or playing soccer with mates in extreme heat, you’ll need active wear that can wick away the moisture you perspire. This way your clothes won’t dampen and stick to you uncomfortably.

It builds confidence

When you are wearing clothes that look great, you feel great! In turn, you give a better performance and are more likely to workout longer if you feel comfortable in what you wear.

Confidence and mental strength are two of the most important elements of successfully achieving your physical goals. While you might think that you have to be physically strong to get started, this isn’t the case. It starts with believing that you can accomplish anything you put your mind too. You do this, and you’ll be ahead of the game!

It lasts

While it may seem expensive to buy high quality active wear when you are just starting out, in the long run it will save you money. High performance clothing will last much longer, and you won’t have to buy as many pieces of it (unless you want to!) The durability and strength will be able to withstand the different weather patterns that your training requires.

It can easily be layered

When choosing active wear it’s important to note that each piece should act as a protective layer for your body.

The first layer, which is normally a t-shirt, should act in keeping you cool and dry. The second layer, such as a fleece, will also keep you dry, but should be able to keep your body’s natural heat in so you stay warm as well. The third layer, your shell, should be a lightweight jacket that is water and wind resistant.

cycling adventures

Packing for a long cycling trip can be exciting, but it can be easy to get overwhelmed. While it may seem that you need to take everything from socks to the kitchen sink, this isn’t the case.

Below are a few items that you need to pack before you leave for your next trip up the trail.

Pack and wear quality clothing

Here’s the thing, many people think that they need to pack multiple layers of clothing so they can change often throughout the trip as they sweat. Those who plan on travelling for longer periods of time, find it easy to overload their backpacks with active wear. This is only necessary if your clothing doesn’t perform well.

When you incorporate high quality clothing into the mix, you won’t need to bring as much. One durable jacket, like the Isotherm Softshell Jacket, will be plenty for your entire journey. Basically the higher quality your clothing is, the less you’ll have to pack.

Also, if you choose to wear a cycling top, be sure you find one that draws moisture away from your body, and moves with you – not against you. Some people prefer to wear a long sleeved shirt in order to protect their arms from the sun.

Whatever your personal preference, make sure the active wear you choose is high performance, high quality, lightweight, and wicks the sweat away from your body, and you will lighten your load tremendously.

Make sure your bike and body are 'tuned up'

If you know how to tune and repair your bike yourself, that’s great! However, it’s not a common requirement for cycling hobbiests.

If you have a big trip coming up, or are going on a trip where the focus is riding as many trails as possible, be sure you take your bike in to get tuned so you know it is ready for the ride.

It’s also a good idea to study up on common problems that can happen to your bike when going on long rides, and how to fix them. This way you’ll know to pack the right tools if the situation arises, and those tutorials will be fresh in your mind.

In the same vein, make sure you are training for the distance that you will be cycling, and follow the rule “eat before you’re hungry, and drink before you're thirsty.” You don’t want to find yourself dehydrated on your trip. This will only slow your metabolism down and make the trip tougher on your body.

Don’t forget the small things

Don’t let yourself forget all of those little items that make a cycling trip more enjoyable. Bring extra plastic bags that seal so you can put items in them that you don’t want to get wet, such as your phone. Toilet paper should always be on the list, as well as bug spray and sunscreen.

Have fun!

Don’t forget to have fun in your packing frenzy. Cycling is a great way to let off steam and enjoy the outdoors.

Come visit us at Cape Osprey before your next cycling trip, and let us help you find the best lightweight and high performance active wear for that pursuit. We look forward to it!

Getting outdoors with the right active wear

When you love taking on all of the great adventures that life brings your way, you might not put too much thought into your wardrobe. However, there are a few essential pieces of activewear that every adventurer should have in order to optimise their outdoor experience – and look amazing while doing it.

Adventurer Wardrobe Must-Haves

#1: A Quality T-Shirt

You should always have a t-shirt like the Cape Osprey Training T. It’s made of a fabric that has the ability to move moisture away from the skin, so you stay dry no matter how much you perspire. It’s crease free, so you can always pack an extra when traveling, and you won’t have to worry about it looking like you ironed your shirt with a brick. Plus, it’s a great inner layer for those cold and windy days by the beach.

Fabrics like cotton just don’t have the advanced technology to keep you insulated properly.

#2: A High Performance Jacket

Spending a day outside can mean water, wind, and cold breezes coming your way. You need a jacket that is able to combat all of these elements, while still maintaining a lightweight and comfortable feel.

The Isotherm Softshell Jacket does just that. It’s a durable and reliable piece of activewear that is an essential part of any adventurer’s wardrobe. Think of it as your shell. It works to protect your body, and acts as the outer layer for your clothing.

#3: Quick Dry Shorts

There may be nothing more frustrating than having to wait for your clothes to dry while you’re still wearing them. This makes for a very uncomfortable trip. Plus, your shorts should never weigh you down. They should allow you to move and be active in.

When you have a pair of quick dry shorts in your wardrobe, then you’ll notice your body will work less, because it is not fighting against your shorts.

#4: A Casual Fleece Jacket

When your day’s venture doesn’t require a high performance jacket, then you should grab your fleece. Not only do these look great when you are hanging with your mates on the beach after a long day of boating, but it will keep you warm and dry in cool weather too.

#5: Active Cool Socks

Socks may be one of the most overlooked pieces in an adventurer’s wardrobe. You want socks that keep your feet cool and dry, while also offering you comfort in each step. When your socks don’t protect your feet the way they should, it can easily end the day early because you’ll want to go home and change.

Remember, when you are on an outdoor adventure, make sure that your active wear isn’t getting in the way of a great time. Here at Cape Osprey we understand that your outdoor clothing should work with your natural motions, and be the last thing on your mind. Add these five essential pieces to your wardrobe, and you’ll notice how much better your next outdoor pursuit is.

There is nothing better than a day away from work where you can get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors. The fresh air, exercise, and time alone or spent with mates can make all of life’s pursuits more enjoyable. But did you know you’re able to make that experience even better?

Below are a few tips to get the most out of your day, and have fun well into the night.

#1: Wear great socks

Don’t overlook how important your socks are into making the most of your day. If you have ever had to leave an event early to change wet socks, or find yourself pulling away from the action because your feet are too hot, then you understand how a quality sock can make a huge difference in how you feel when you move.

A great choice is our Active Cool Socks. While these socks are extremely comfortable to wear, that shouldn’t be the most important feature to you. These innovative socks are specifically designed to help your feet stay cool and dry.

#2: Have breathable outdoor clothing

There is nothing worse than clothes that stick to you and move against your body instead of with it. Having breathable t-shirts, shorts, and jackets will improve the way you interact in sports and physical activities throughout the day. Plus, it will give you an edge on your competition when they aren’t prepared with the right active clothing.

You should expect your breathable outdoor clothing to work as hard as you do. It gives you a sense of confidence because you are able to perform at your peak and move at your full range of motion. Cape Osprey has many breathable t-shirts and long sleeve shirts that keep you steps ahead.

#3: Check the weather

It’s so easy to forget such a simple task! Even though you can check it from your mobile device, once you’ve already arrived at your destination it might be too late. Check the weather before you leave, so you’ll know if you need to bring additional active clothing like a jacket for rain and wind or fleece wear for a cold night ahead.

#4: Dress for anything

You never know where the day can take you. That’s why Cape Osprey offers you outdoor clothing that is not only performance ready, but also looks great when you are hanging out with mates. Whether you met a few new people on your hike up the mountain, or you’ve cycled for 15 kilometres and are ready for a beer at the local pub, with the right active wear you’ll look great no matter what.

If you have upcoming travel plans, you want to be prepared for cool evenings and hot days, and that’s why layers are such an important part of your travel wardrobe. Having the right jacket, fleece wear, and long sleeved shirts can make all of the difference. Don’t just choose anything off the rack though! You want to make sure you are getting the most durable and comfortable outdoor clothing available.

Here are a few tips on how to choose the right layers that will make your travel experience a positive one.

You want performance fabrics that work with your body when you are moving, while also protecting you from the natural elements of the outdoors. The Isotherm Softshell Jacket is an excellent example. It’s windproof and water resistant, plus the innovative design allows for breathability and comfort.

A fleece is also a great choice to bring with you when you travel. The soft and comfortable fabric makes it a fun choice for nights on the beach, plus they are extremely easy to relax in, as well as be active in.

Long sleeved shirts do more than just keep your arms warm. They can also protect you from bug bites and the sun. You’ll want to choose one like the Traverse Long Sleeve T that has breathable fabric that keeps moisture away from your body. Plus it’s crease-free, making it easy to pull out of your luggage and throw on in a moments notice.

The outdoor clothing you choose for travel will need to be functional. A jacket with a removable hood will lighten your load when it’s cold and sunny out, while protecting you on rainy and windy days. It’s also extremely convenient when you are sporting around if you can zip the pockets of your fleece or jacket up. This way everything in your pockets will stay secure and you won’t have to worry about losing the items you carry, like your wallet.

The layers you choose for your trip should also work with your body, so you don’t spend your travels fighting with your clothes, but enjoy being in them. You want to be able to virtually wear the clothes you pack everywhere you go. The more functional they are, the better off you will be.

While you want to buy outdoor clothing that is reliable, you also want it to look good when enjoying a casual evening with new and old mates. While layers are important to bring, they can also take up a lot of room in your suitcase or backpack. That’s why you should choose neutral colours that go with everything, such as navy, grey, blue, and black. This way you won’t have to pack multiple jackets and fleeces, but you can bring one of each and they’ll go with all of your other active clothes.

High quality outdoor clothing is a worthy investment. We want you to focus on your next moves, and not how your active wear is performing. That’s why Cape Osprey brings you the most innovative jackets, fleece, and long sleeved shirts for all of your travel needs. Here’s to all of life’s great adventures, and the clothing that gets you there!

Hiking is one of the most beautiful and rewarding exercises that we can take part in. It is good for the body, as well as the mind, and is a great way to take yourself off the grid for a day. But, if you have ever worn the wrong active clothing or packed the wrong gear, you may have found yourself with blisters on your heels, a wicked sunburn, and shirt you’re ready to toss on the barbie by the end of the day.

That’s why it’s so important to find the right outdoor clothing and gear for all of your outdoor adventures. Here are a few tips on what to pack and wear for an amazing hiking trip.

Bring layers of clothes

Temperatures and weather can be very unpredictable, and you want to be prepared for anything that may happen. Be sure you bring a fleece or long sleeved shirt with you. Not only will you be able to protect yourself from sun exposure and chilly weather, if you decide to pop off early and have lunch somewhere, you’ll have an attractive fleece or shirt to wear.

Pack lightweight and crease resistant shirts

You want to have lightweight, active clothing that is going to be durable and keep moisture wicked away from the body. It’s important that you find high quality t-shirts that work with your movements. If you spend the day tugging at your shirt or feeling overheated, you’re not going to enjoy the hike. Be sure you get t-shirts that are made of fabrics that can handle the elements that come with being active outdoors.

Have quick dry apparel

Don’t let a rainy day ruin your hiking plans. When you have quick dry shorts, you won’t have to worry about wet shorts that slow you down. On top of that, wet shorts can be downright uncomfortable and annoying. Don’t let this happen to you ever again.

The Canyon Shorts at Cape Osprey are exactly what you need in order to get the comfort and fast drying features you’re looking for. Once you purchase your first pair of quick dry outdoor clothing, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

Don’t overload your backpack

While there are some essential items you should have in your backpack such as sunscreen lotion, a camera, a small lunch or snack, water, and plasters, you don’t want to add so much weight that you get exhausted when carrying it. Take only the essentials, or divide the items needed amongst your mates so everyone is carrying a little of the weight. This will make your hike more comfortable, and your endurance last longer.
